DOP CIRCULAR NO. 2017-117
5 December 2017
|TO:||ALL PARISH PRIESTS, PARISH ADMINISTRATORS, RECTORS, CHAPLAINS, GUEST PRIESTS, PRIESTS ON LOAN AND RELIGIOUS PRIESTS IN THE DIOCESE OF PARAÑAQUE|
|RE:||COMPLETE WEDDING REQUIREMENTS BEFORE THE CANONICAL INTERVIEW|
The Chancery, with the recommendation of the Judicial Vicar of the diocese, has released the DOP CIRCULAR NO. 2013-072 – Official Reservation Form for the Scheduling of a Couple for their Wedding Date in the Parish. This form serves as a formal agreement between the Parish Office and the client who are planning to schedule their wedding in the parish. This aids both parties to monitor and review documents which are important to be submitted at a given time.
Moreover, the abovementioned guideline supports the instructions stated in DOP CIRCULAR NO. 2015 – 030 – The Clarification on Two Pre-requisites of Marriage: Canonical Interview and Wedding Banns, wherein we reminded all our clergy that proper requirements for wedding should always be observed in order to avoid difficulties and problems.
To reiterate and reinforce the aforementioned guidelines, the following points should be noted and strictly observed:
- All wedding requirements should be completed before the Canonical Interview. Pastors and parish secretaries should always secure that the requirements are duly submitted at least one month before the wedding date. Therefore, no couple should be scheduled for canonical interview unless all requirements have been completed.
- “No-to-follow” policy. We always emphasize that the “No-to-follow” policy should always be observed in order to avoid canonical and legal problems along the way. Therefore, no couple should be admitted for wedding unless all requirements have been completed before the canonical interview.
- Special cases that are beyond the scope of these guidelines should always be consulted to the Chancery office in order to address and handle the matter prudently in accordance to canonical and legal norms.
We hope that through these procedures, we may be able to give utmost importance and care to the proper requirements in wedding. They are not just ordinary documents. They are essential for the lawfulness and the validity of Marriage.
