DOP CIRCULAR NO. 2018-046

26 April 2018

TO: ALL PARISH PRIESTS, PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL, PARISH ADMINISTRATORS, RECTORS, PAROCHIAL VICARS, CHAPLAINS, GUEST PRIESTS, PRIESTS ON LOAN,  RELIGIOUS PRIESTS AND NUNS IN THE DIOCESE OF PARAÑAQUE, VICARIATE COMBANE HEADS AND PARISH COMBANE HEADS
SUBJECT: SIMULTANEOUS CELEBRATION OF THE PARISH BEC DAY IN THE DIOCESE OF PARAÑAQUE

Reverend Monsignori and Fathers:

Last year, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) designated 2017 as the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities.  Part of the celebration last year was the Nationwide Simultaneous Celebration of the Parish BEC Day on June 10, 2017, the eve of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.  This is a parish-based and parish-wide assembly which aims to gather all the BECs and other faith communities in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie, with the Holy Trinity as their source and model of communion, participation, and mission.

This year, the Diocese of Paranaque, through the Diocesan Commission on BEC Animation and New Evangelization (COMBANE), in its continuing efforts of forming and revitalizing the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC), enjoins all its parishes to celebrate the Parish BEC Day in our Diocese annually, ideally every Trinity Sunday or eve of the Trinity Sunday which, for this year, falls on May 26 and 27, respectively. However, if your parish has already an established Parish BEC Day on a date other than the Trinity Sunday, then you may opt to continue celebrating the Parish BEC Day on said date.

In this connection, COMBANE proposes, as in last year the following activities to guide your parishes in planning for your Parish BEC Day:

Formation – a talk or discussion on the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons as it relates to the thrust of having a deep and meaningful relationship among the clergy, the religious and the BEC’s together with a sharing of experiences of the members of BECs and faith communities on their experiences, challenges, and dreams for their respective communities

Communion – activities like agape or community table fellowship, community parade, cultural presentations, fun games, and other community-building activities that will strengthen their sense of communion, participation, and mission in the parish

Celebration – since it falls on a Saturday, an anticipated mass for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity presided by the Parish Priest may serve as the central or culminating activity of the day

Please feel free to include other activities that will make your Parish BEC Day a fruitful and memorable one as long as the elements of formation, communion and celebration are present.

May our celebration of the Parish BEC Day contribute in establishing the BECs as the “kalakbay, kaakbay, kaagapay ng mga pari at relihiyoso tungo kay Kristo” among our parishes in the diocese.

Sincerely yours,

REV. FR. KEVIN LUTHER C. CRISOSTOMO
