|RE:||“FAST2FEED 2020”: ASH WEDNESDAY APPEAL OF HAPAG-ASA|
Reverend Monsignori and Fathers,
Greetings of peace and hope!
The 2019 Global Hunger Index reports that the Philippines has the highest stunting situation in the ASEAN region. Because of hunger and undernourishment, especially in the first one thousand days, more than three out of ten Filipino children are stunting in physical and mental growth. Considering this dire situation, it is urgent that the Church continue its mission of feeding the hungry.
Pondo ng Pinoy’s Hapag-Asa Integrated Nutrition program is committed to feed the hungry and malnourished children throughout the country, as well as the undernourished pregnant and lactating mothers. This year, we hope that each Pondo ng Pinoy member-diocese will commit to feed at least 3,500 children, and to organize the mothers into self-help groups in order to sustain the gains of the feeding. We also need to raise funds to provide for the increased food subsidy to participating dioceses.
In this connection, may I request your Reverences to support the HAPAG-ASA Program by making announcements in all Sunday Masses of 23 February 2020 and in your Anticipated Saturday Mass of 22 February 2020 that there will be a second collection in all Masses on Ash Wednesday (26 February 2020) for the re-launch of the FAST2FEED Fund Campaign. May we also request that all collections be remitted to the Diocesan Finance Office within ten (10) days. We hope that FAST2FEED 2020 campaign will be able to raise the funds to feed the hungry and malnourished children, one meal a day for 120 days.
Moreover, Please find attached Pastoral Letter of His Excellency, Most Rev. Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, D.D., Chairman of the Pondo ng Pinoy Community Foundation, Inc., which is to be read in all masses on Ash Wednesday, 26 February 2020.
For questions and clarifications, you may get in touch with the HAPAG-ASA Secretariat at (02) 8632-1001 to 03 or our Diocesan HAPAG-ASA Coordinator, Violy Novenario of Good Shepherd Parish, contact numbers: (02) 8732040/0995-0885602.
May our efforts to help the least, the last and the lost among our brethren, especially the children, this coming Lenten Season prepare us to celebrate God’s redemption at Easter and further strengthen our faith to be able to love and serve more with God’s grace.
Sincerely in Christ,
MOST REV. JESSE E. MERCADO, D.D.
Bishop of Parañaque
